Be the best you! Authentic leadership.

Yesterday I spoke at an Aurora reflection session in Canterbury Christ Church University. It was for leaders and aspiring leaders across the university.

It is always challenging for me to decide on how much to share when I am invited to speak at an event.

The title of my talk ‘Be the best you! Authentic leadership’ required a high degree of openness.  So, the question was do I just say everything? Or do I make it specific for my audience?

Another dilemma. So many unanswered questions:

  • What is their history?
  • Will they be able to relate?
  • Will they respond?
  • Will they like me?
  • Will they change how they view me when they hear my story?

In life we are faced with similar questions. It is not just for those with a platform. Our everyday encounters sometimes cause us to put on masks rather than be truly seen.

I believe that authenticity even when it may invite judgement is the best way to live. There will always be doubts but being truly you will invite others to be themselves too.

Micah 6:8 What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

For me this is the key to living well.
